Helen Joseph Hospital to commemorate World AIDS Day

Gauteng Health MEC Hope Papo will tomorrow join patients and staff at Helen Joseph Academic Hospital in commemorating World AIDS Day.

This awareness and educational campaign, which is in partnership with Liberty and Right to Care aims to encourage people to know their health status by testing regularly.

The hospital will also alert the community about services available for those infected and affected by the virus.

The hospital will also showcase the automation pharmacy dispensing unit. This unit is made up of a dispensing, loading and storage system for medicines.  It stores up to 12 000 medicines.  Loading is done automatically by filing a bin fed by a conveyer belt. Barcode scanning technology ensures accurate loading and within 15 seconds, a prescription can be picked and its label printed.

During the day, there will also be exhibitions, counselling and testing for various conditions including HIV, hypertension, diabetes and cervical cancer.

Journalists are invited to attend.
