The GPL Social Development portfolio committee engages stakeholders in Katlehong

The Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) Portfolio Committee on Social Development, led by Honourable Thuliswa Nkabinde will host a Stakeholder Engagement Session as follows:

Mandated to conduct oversight over the department; make laws; and ensure participation by the people of Gauteng, the Social Development Committee is responsible for delivering on the five year priorities, presented subsequent the 2014 National elections. Public participation plays an imperative role in achieving these priorities, and the Committee is dedicated to ensuring the people of Gauteng are consulted with and their concerns and challenges resolved.

Noting previous political term challenges and achievements in the area of public participation, the Social Development Portfolio Committee has resolved to work towards strengthening relationships with its stakeholders through programmes such as the upcoming Stakeholder Engagement Session. The Committee aims to fully engage the people of Gauteng to get to the core of issues and challenges experienced; in order to provide relevant services that better respond to people’s needs.

On Monday, the Portfolio Committee will engage with various stakeholders within the field of Social Development for the purpose of:

  • Identifying areas of concern affecting stakeholders that need urgent attention by the Executive;
  • Developing an environment that will strengthen the working relationship between the Committee and stakeholders;
  • Identifying policy related gaps and solutions to improve service delivery and inform policy implementation within the Province.

About 300 stakeholders have been invited to attend the Session, among them are representatives from the following organisations: Soshanguve Forum; Child and Youth Care NPO; Older Persons’ NPO; Crime Prevention and Victim Support NPO; People with Disabilities NPO; Children and Families NPO; DEAF SA; Autism SA; Abraham Kriel Orphanage; Quadriplegic NPO; Two (2) Old Age homes; and a Child and Youth Care Centre in Kagiso among others.

The Committee will engage with its stakeholder to ensure that both the government and society understand their roles in building a better Gauteng. The Committee is committed to addressing Social Development challenges existent within the Province, executing its mandate in a manner that strives to make valuable impact and improve the quality of people’s lives.
