Government hosts workshop to track service delivery in the rural areas

The national Department of Rural Development and Land Reform in collaboration with the North West Provincial Government and the District Municipalities will be hosting a service delivery workshop on 29 August 2013 at Cooks Lake in Mahikeng.

The objective of the workshop is to track progress made by the three spheres of government in the implementation of the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme (CRDP). In attendance will be the representatives of the three spheres of government, including key role-players such as the Council of Stakeholders from the CRDP sites in the province.

The workshop is in line with the coordination role of the implementation of the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme and Outcome 7 (of the 12 Outcomes of Government), which forms part of the Government programme of action. Rural development was identified as one of the five government priorities in 2009.

The North West Province is the first province to host the service delivery workshop. Similar workshops will be held in other provinces, culminating in a National Service Delivery Conference in November where a consolidated report will be presented as part of the monitoring and evaluation of service delivery in the rural areas. The service delivery workshop forms part of the Reversing the Legacy of the 1913 Natives’ Land Act campaign, and happens at the time when the Provincial Government is hosting the Reversing the Legacy of the 1913 Natives’ Land Act exhibition at the Mmabatho Convention Centre near Mafikeng.

A reflection session with key stakeholders from the North West province will take place at the Convention Centre later in the day as part of the 1913 Natives’ Land Act exhibition programme. The Reflection session serves as a platform for the key stakeholders to share their experiences on the impact of the 1913 Natives’ Land Act. Veteran Political activist Mme Ruth Mompati will be among those participating in the Reflection session.
