Government employees' festive spending summit

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Treasury in partnership with the Office of the Premier and the KwaZulu-Natal Financial Literacy Association will on Friday, 1 November 2013 at Ulundi host the Government Employees Festive Spending Summit, in a bid to create greater awareness of financial indebtedness in the Public Service.

Research has proven that indebtedness often results in high absenteeism from work, fraud and corruption. It is therefore in the government’s best interest to deal with the issue of over indebtedness of its employees.

The KwaZulu-Natal government has embarked on a campaign to manage the large number of Emoluments Attachment Orders (EAOs) that have been instated and deducted off employees’ salaries.

This summit will help government employees cope with financial demands during the festive season and the beginning of the year’s expenses associated with the opening of the schools. About 800 provincial government employees at all salary levels and 200 invited guests made up of the Provincial Leadership and partners are all expected to attend.
