Gender Equality hosts hearings on gender transformation at Institutions of Higher Learning, 25 to 28 Nov

On 25 to 28 November 2014, as part of its Constitutional mandate the Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) will be holding investigative hearings into gender transformation at Institutions of Higher Learning in South Africa.

The Commission is embarking on these hearings to ascertain the extent of progress made and the challenges faced by institutions of higher learning in promoting gender transformation. In particular the investigations will probe current internal policies, systems, programmes and relevant strategies put in place by these institutions to ensure effective gender transformation, including the challenges.

Two Institutions of Higher Learning (i.e. the University of South Africa and University of Venda) as well as the Department of Higher Education will be appearing before the Commission to give an account of their gender transformation programmes and activities.

Details:

Date: 25 to 28 November 2014
Time: 09h00 - 16h30
Venue: Constitution Hill, Human Rights Conference Room, Old Forte, Braamfontein

The institutions will be appearing on the following dates:

  • 25 - 26 November 2014 – Department of Higher Education and Training
  • 26 - 27 November 2014 – University of South Africa
  • 27 - 28 November 2014 – University of Venda

It is anticipated that the hearings will enable the Commission to get better understanding of the internal policies, programmes and strategies put in place by these institutions to promote and advance gender transformation.
