C4U Foundation and Freedom Park engage 67 learners on Critical Career Conversations on Mandela Day at Freedom Park

In commemoration of Mandela Day, Freedom Park together with the C4U Foundation will join forces to roll out a Youth Mentorship project aimed at empowering 67 young people from the following disadvantaged communities:

  • Steve Tshwete high School in Olivenhoutbosch
  • Kwena Molapo Secondary High School in Diepsloot
  • El Terbanacle Christian and Fred Norman Schools in Ennerdale
  • East Bank High School in Alexandra
  • Lehlabile Secondary School in Mamelodi
  • Hofmeyer Secondary School in Atteridgeville and
  • Pretoria technical High school at Sunnyside

The main aim of the Mandela Day Empowerment Mentoring Walk is to cultivate a culture where young people ask relevant questions to experienced professionals and to also acknowledge the importance of having a mentor to keep them accountable in their journey to success.

The event is structured to ensure that the platform allows both mentor and mentee to continue the relationship even after the event. Apart from this event, the C4U Foundation on a continuous basis conducts afterschool care programmes. These programmes are aimed at facilitating subject and career coaching programmes as well as hosting various educational career events.

Mandela Day is more than a celebration of Madiba’s life and legacy. It is a global movement to honour his life – tata Madiba’s work and act to change the world for the better. An inspirational message and a call to emerging leaders in today’s generation to take action. It is now in our hands as tomorrow’s leaders to take action’, says C4U Foundation managing director, Ms Fulufhelo Ramulifho.

On the day, 67 high school learners and undergraduates together with their assigned mentors will embark on a 67 minute empowerment mentoring walk to be led by the Passionate Professional. The Empowerment Mentoring Walk unifies a global leadership network passionate about paying it forward and investing in the next generation of youth leaders. The aim is to empower 67 young people on career, leadership and personal development skills.

The late state president Tata Madiba was the patron in Chief of Freedom Park. Commemorating his day through youth development is emulating his legacy. Working with 67 youth on Mandela Day could not have been a better choice of a project. Freedom Park’s objectives are heritage, history and culture all foregrounded on indigenous knowledge. It is also Freedom Park’s aim to inform and educate young people about who we are as a people’ says Acting CEO Ms Jane Mufamadi.
