Free State to host remembrance day for road traffic victims

The Minister of Transport, Honourable Dipuo Peters, together with MEC for Police, Roads and Transport in the Free State Honourable Butana Komphela will launch the 2013 Festive Season Road Safety campaign on Sunday, 17 November 2013 in Botshabelo near Bloemfontein.

The Minister will also use the even to observe world remembrance day for road traffic victims. World remembrance day for road traffic victims is observed on the third Sunday of November every year as the appropriate acknowledgement of victims of Road Traffic crashes and their families and relatives who must cope with the emotional and practical consequences of the tragic events.

Festive season is critical period for road traffic management authorities in the country. It covers a concentrated five-day high traffic volume period, with many motorists travelling the length and breadth of the country for holiday purposes. During this period, hundreds of people perish. Lives are cut short. The nation is robbed of immense talent.

Transport MECs and CEO of Transport entities in South Africa are expected to join Minister Peters during the launch of festive season road safety campaign and  when she observe World remembrance day for road traffic victims.
