Free State to host International Civil Aviation Day (ICAD) celebration

International Civil Aviation Day (ICAD) will be celebrated from 4 to 7 December 2013 at the Tempe Airport in Bloemfontein. This will include a career exhibition over four days as well as an exciting air show with free entrance on 7 December. The main event and gala dinner will take place on 6 December 2013.

The purpose of the annual celebration is to establish and reinforce worldwide awareness of the importance of international civil aviation in social and economic development. The celebrations also highlight the role of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in promoting safety, efficiency and regularity of international air transport. The theme for 2013 international Civil Aviation Day (ICAD) is “Your Reliable Connection to the World”

South Africa faces a serious challenge of providing integrated and seamless transport infrastructure and services in order to achieve the goals set in the national, regional and global development agendas. The aviation sector has to live up to the expectations of being a key facilitator of rapid trade and business activity across geographic and time divides.

Since 2003, the celebration of ICAD in South Africa has been done by way of rotation amongst various provinces with the objective of reaching out to the communities that are less exposed to aviation. Approximately three thousand (3 000) Grade 10 to12 (Mathematics and Science) learners will pass through various organisations’ career exhibitions stands during International Civil Aviation Day (ICAD) celebration in Bloemfontein.
