Free State Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs hosts Tussen Die Reviere 4X4 Eco Challenge, 2 to 3 Dec

The Free State, Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA) will on 02 to 03 December 2023 host the Tussen Die Reviere 4X4 Eco Challenge.

The main object of this initiative is to offer tourists an insight into the impact of human beings on environment.

It also seek to foster a greater appreciation of Free State adventure and reignite Eco- tourism for the visitors to experience the wild beauty of the province from the back of 4X4.

These excursions will be conducted in the early morning hours, 06h00, when animals are at their most active.

About 20 Free State Jeepers will lead the “festive season campaign” with convoy within Naval Hill.

They will hit the road via N1 to DESTEA Tussen die Reviere nature reserve near Bethulie, Xhariep District.

As part of the festive season campaign:

  • The 4X4 touring team will be spreading the message of road safety during the festive season.
  • The activities of the day will include game drives to Klip Staples for sundowners, game drives, and capture demonstrations.
  • On 15 and 16 December 2023, DESTEA will host Maphikela Junction Trade Fair, where SMMEs will be exhibiting to showcase their products and services around the township tourism product offerings.

DESTEA’s resorts and reserves offer unforgettable experiences at low cost, catering for all demographics, such as family and individual outings and year-end functions.

The resorts and reserves offer amenities such as chalets, braai areas, picnic areas, swimming pools, camping sites, and activities such as game drives, bird watching, and fishing.

DESTEA MEC Thabo Meeko is calling on international and domestic tourists to explore Free State “as we are in a mode to reposition our province as a ‘go to and not go through province.”

Tourism product owners should go beyond the call of duty in their mission of delivering quality services to the visitors.

“Let’s inspire traveling and adventure enthusiasts to visit the Free State tourism attractions because tourism serves as a significant pillar of the economy with many households depending on it for their livelihoods”, MEC concluded.

TDR is haven for 4X4 enthusiasts with 45km off-road trials.
