Members of the media are invited to attend and report on the National Science Week (NSW) activities at the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa) in Pelindaba. Minister of Energy, the Hon. Ben Martins will be addressing 500 school learners during the National Science Week.
Passionate about inspiring the youth, Minister Martins will deliver the address the learners and participate in dialogue with them on the pros and cons of nuclear as well as careers in science and technology.
In 2012, Necsa hosted 2 500 school learners during the NSW and intends to host about 3 000 this year. Most of the schools come from the disadvantaged and surrounding rural. Greater emphasis is placed on Maths and Science teaching schools, in order to encourage the learners to take up careers in science and technology.
Hosting about five hundred school learners each day during the NSW, Necsa anticipates the Minister’s visit as follows:
