Employment and Labour embarks on ministerial service delivery campaign, 8 Jan

In a quest to stay true to the ethos of the service delivery drive initiated by the powers that be, the Department of Employment and Labour will be hosting a campaign called, “Taking Services to the People”.  This campaign will be officiated and graced by the presence of none other than the Minister of the Department, Hon. Thulas Nxesi.  He will be flanked by the Director General and other senior managers to provide oversight on the work done by the province.

This event will see Departmental officials delivering quality and real-time services to the community of Vrede in the Free State province.  This contingent of officials will constitute and be representative of all competencies within the Department and its entities.  It is against this backdrop that Compensation Fund services, UIF services, Inspection and Enforcement Services and Public Employment Services will be on offer.

To ensure a full basket of government services is delivered, other government departments such as Home Affairs, Social Development, Agriculture, Education, South African National Defence Force, and the South African Police Service, to name just a few, have also been invited to render their respective services.  To augment services of these departments, other state agencies such as the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration, National Youth Development Agency, and banking and tertiary institutions such as Maluti TVET College have been invited.

This event will be held as follows:
Date: 08 January 2020
Time: 09:00
Venue: Evungweni Secondary School, Vrede

This campaign will culminate into the hosting of a special meeting between the Minister and identified farm workers in the Warden area.  This meeting will serve as a perfect platform for the Minister to engage farm workers on issues of mutual importance.

The Minister will seal his visit on a high note by participating in blitz inspections which will be conducted on farms in Warden.  These inspections will give the Minister a better sense of the level of compliance to labour legislation in the area in an effort to ensure that the rights of workers are protected and promoted at all material times.

This Ministerial visit is used as one of many pro-active mechanisms the Department of Employment and Labour has adopted to try and speed up service delivery and ensure the livelihoods of our clients are maintained.  The campaign part of this visit is envisaged to be a comprehensive one stop shop for all services of, not only the Department, but government as a whole.

Members of the media are invited.
