Ekurhuleni Municipality to account for its inability to deliver

Kindly be advised that, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature will be taking the Parliament to the People at Ekurhuleni, in order to bring the Authorities from Ekurhuleni to account on the service delivery protests as submitted on various issues.

The Petitions Standing Committee led by Hon. Lindi Lasindwa will be conducting public hearings on the date scheduled as follows:
Date: Saturday and Sunday, 2 to 3 November 2013
Venue: Germiston Banquet Hall
Time: 11h00

“It is a democratic and Constitutional means to resolve all the problems experienced by Citizens – no matter how big or how small. Petitions are a guaranteed effort that all public officials must acknowledge and respond to – under the diligent supervision of the Legislature. There are no lies told, and no victories claimed where there are none. Petitions are among some key mechanisms that have been put in place to enforce accountability by public officials,” said Chairperson Lasindwa.

A current issue in Bekkersdal has seriously portrayed a serious notion of accountability by Authorities, which has led to detrimental circumstances which amongst others include; the alleged non-service delivery which has seen the infrastructure built for the communities, being destroyed and burned up in order for their disputes be heard. This kind of action cannot be exhilarated hence; such hearings are an effort to encourage amicable resolve of unsatisfactory delivery by the Government in Gauteng.

Members of the Media are invited and requested to cover these hearings as part of educating the communities and witnessing the Legislature practicing its independence thus ensuring that; public participation is proficient and the oversight role being unfavourably instigated on Government Authorities entrusted with service delivery.
