Eastern Cape Legislature visits Joe Gqabi District, 3 to 5 Mar

The Portfolio Committee on Public Participation, Petitions and Education of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature will this week embark on oversight visits in the Joe Gqabi District. The oversight visits emanates from petitions received during the Taking Legislature to the People programme held in October 2014, in Burgersdorp.

These petitions affecting different government departments were investigated and recommendations were sent to them for response and implementation. The areas to be visited by the Committee will include Lady Grey, Burgersdorp, Steynburg, Venterstard, Jamestown, Aliwal North, Barkley East and Elundini.

Committee Chairperson, MPL Fezeka Nkomonye, says the affected departments which include Education, Social Development, Human Settlements, Rural Development & Agrarian Reform, Cooperative Governance & Traditional Affairs, Health, Roads & Public Works, Labor, Sport, Recreation, Arts & Culture, Finance and Safety & Liaison have been invited to give progress report on the petitions.

Members of the public will have an opportunity to directly engage with MPLs during these visits.  The public participation week commences today, Wednesday, 3 to 5 March 2015.
