District Six claimants receive keys to their new homes

The National Ministry of Human Settlements will host a hand-over ceremony for beneficiaries of Phase 2 of the District Six claimants project tomorrow, 24 August 2013.

In line with the significant contributions that the City of Cape Town has made to this project, the City’s Executive Mayor, Alderman Patricia de Lille, will officially open the proceedings.

This event forms part of the reversal of the legacy of the 1913 Native Land Act, and the rebuilding of District Six. The City is a key partner as part of its commitment to redress and creating an Opportunity City for all residents. Claimants will accept the keys to their new homes and reflect on their past experiences during the event.

Date: Saturday 24 August 2013
Time: 8h30 to 13h00
Venue: Pontact Street, District Six
