Director-General of the Department of Military Veteransto announce the provision of health care cards to Military Veterans

The Director General of the Department of Military Veterans, Mr Tsepe Motumi  accompanied by  Kebby Maphatsoe, the President of  the new  Military Veterans Umbrella Association will on Sunday, 13 October 2013 brief members of the media on the  Military Veterans Health and Wellness Initiative. The programme will run from 15 October until 5 December 2013 in all nine provinces.

The department is tasked with ensuring that military veterans have access to healthcare services, which  must be accessed with  proper authorisation. Currently more than 4000 military veterans have access to free medical care provided by the South African Military Health Services’ facilities.

The new umbrella association  represents military veterans nationally;  it comprises of Umkhonto We Sizwe Military Veterans association (MKMVA), Azanian Peoples Military Veterans (APLAMVA), the Azanian People’s National Liberation Army Military Veterans Association, (AZANLAMVA), former TBVC states MVA’s, the Council for military Veterans Organisation, (CMVO) and the  South African Cape Corps,( SACC).

Representatives of the veterans are working closely with the department to ensure that  they strengthen partnerships with business labour, civil society, and three spheres of government and global military veterans associations in ensuring that the aspiration of military veterans are attained including health and wellness.
