Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, who chairs the South African National AIDS Council, will participate at the National World AIDS Day Commemoration at Olen Park Stadium, North West province on 1 December 2012.
This commemoration will be held at Tlokwe Local Municipality in Potchefstroom. The Deputy President will be joined by the Ministers Aaron Motsoaledi of Health, Fikile Mbalula of Sport & Recreation, North West Premier Thandi Modise, other National Ministers and Deputy Ministers, including members of the North West Provincial Council on AIDS.
This year's theme is "A re dlale Safe for zero new HIV and TB infections”- "Let's play it safe for new HIV and TB infections”. The global theme for World AIDS Day was announced last year and it will run until 2015, with three key messages: "Zero New HIV Infection”, "Zero Stigma and Discrimination” and "Zero AIDS- related Deaths”.
Immediately after the main proceedings in Potchefstroom, the Deputy President, Health and the Sport and Recreation Ministers will proceed to attend the Telkom Knockout Final at Moses Mabida Stadium in Durban as a continuation of the commemoration of the World AIDS Day.
The Deputy President will be the Guest of Honour of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and will also deliver the World AIDS Day message just before the match kick-off, as well as hand-over the trophy to the winning team.
