Deputy President David Mabuza replies to oral questions in Parliament, 3 Mar

Deputy President David Mabuza will tomorrow, Tuesday, 3 March 2020, brief members of the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) in Parliament, Cape Town, on efforts led by government to bring stability to the national power utility, Eskom, measures to improve governance and performance of State-owned companies, and progress on the land reform programme, during his reply to oral questions. 

Following the State of the Nation Address by President Cyril Ramaphosa that government will implement measures that will fundamentally change the trajectory of energy generation in the country, the Deputy President has been delegated to lead the Eskom Task Team with the aim of developing a comprehensive approach to ensure the implementation of a turnaround plan to meet the obligation of providing electricity supply. 

Deputy President Mabuza will also brief the NCOP members on progress made by government in fast-tracking the land reform programme. The IMC on Land Reform chaired by Deputy President Mabuza has recently considered progress made by government with regards to programme and plan of action for the release of State-owned land for human settlement and agricultural production including the response of government in dealing with the crisis of drought and water challenges.

In his capacity as Special Envoy to South Sudan, the Deputy President will also brief the NCOP on South Africa’s continued peace facilitation efforts towards the implementation of the Revitalised Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan.
