Deputy Ministers Rejoice Mabudafhasi and Thabang Makwetla officiate opening of 6th Funda Mzantsi National Championship, 5 Oct

Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi and Deputy Minister of Correctional Services, Mr Thabang Makwetla in collaboration with the National Library of South Africa's Centre for the Book will officiate the opening of the 6th Funda Mzantsi National Championship on Monday, 5 October 2015, in George, Western Cape.

The theme for the 2015 Funda Mzantsi National Championship is "Developing Creative Minds". Funda Mzantsi National Championship is a Book Club reading competition wherein more than 30 book clubs will compete to win the first prize. This includes book clubs at correctional facilities whereby offenders participate as part of rehabilitation programme through reading and the winners of the competition receive medals and trophies.

The purpose of the Funda Mzantsi Championship is to instill the love of reading, improve book reviewing techniques and cultivate the ability to publicly engage in fruitful debates.

"The competition is growing and we see a great impact this competition has had in the past years. We have added iSiZulu and Sesotho languages because previously we had only 4 languages which were Afrikaans, English, Setswana and IsiXhosa" said Mandlakayise Matyumza, Director Centre for the Book.

The book clubs will compete in three categories: Book Reading, Book Review and Debate in six languages. Each language is adjudicated by three adjudicators who are specialist in their profession and they are as follows:

In Afrikaans : Rita Swanepoel, Marietjie Beukes and Keith Edwards,
in English: John Geldenhuys, Mr Bonakele Busika and Ms Fundiswa Burneli,
in IsiXhosa: Loyiso Mlethtshe, Sebonelo Mokapelo, Mbulelo Ngewu,
in IsiZulu: Saziso Dlamini, Joyce Thwala, Dumisani Bhengu,
in Sesotho Mohau Letse, Ntoetse Letsie and Winston Mohapi,
and in Setswana: Dikagisho Mokoma, Mesty Matlela and Martin Tsheole
