The Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi will hand over Awards of Excellence to Environmental Management Inspectorate officials officials - known as the Green Scorpions - at a ceremony to be held on Thursday 14 November 2013, Kleinmond, Western Cape.
The awards will be issued to Inspectorate officials, field rangers and prosecutors, who have made outstanding contributions within their respective environmental compliance and enforcement disciplines. The award categories include: Best Criminal Investigator; Best Administrative Enforcement Official; Best Compliance Officer; Best Prosecutor; Best Field Ranger, and the EMI Support Service Award.
The ceremony will be preceded by the 5th Annual National Environmental Environment Compliance Enforcement Lekgotla which takes place from 11 to 14 November 2013 in Kleinmond, Western Cape, under the theme: The EMI Evolution: Unlocking the Potential.
The primary objective of the Lekgotla is to bring together national, provincial and local authorities that are involved in environmental compliance to discuss topics of common interest and to develop capacity. It will also discuss strategies and make recommendations to tackle the challenges facing the environmental compliance and enforcement sector. This year’s Lekgotla is a four-day programme that includes capacity-building, workshops led by the Environmental Management Inspectorate, plenary panel discussions and presentations.
