The Deputy Minister of Social Development, Mrs Bongi Maria Ntuli will hand over two houses two destitute families in Kwaggafontein and Moloto, Mpumalanga province, who have up until now been living in shacks.
The two families have no employed family members and survive mainly on social grants. Both families are headed by elderly women looking after four and five children respectively.
The houses were built by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in partnership with Al-Imdaad Foundation, a non-profit organisation. The families were identified for urgent housing assistance during a visit by the Deputy Minister Ntuli in Mpumalanga province.
The handover of the houses forms part of the Departments service delivery improvement programme, Project Mikondzo, which seeks to speed up the delivery of services in the country’s 1 300 most poor wards.
