Deputy Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga launches Road Traffic Infringement Agency new brand, 14 May

The Deputy Minister of Transport, Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga, will deliver keynote address during the launch of the Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA) new brand in Midrand on Thursday, 14 May 2015.

RTIA is responsible for the independent adjudication of traffic infringements and fines issued under Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences AARTO Act.

During the launch, the Deputy Minister will also give progress on the much awaited proposed AARTO amendment bill and the demerit points system.

The AARTO Act ensures that traffic offences are decriminalised and dealt with administratively through the AARTO process. This process outlines rights and responsibilities of motorists such as disputing a traffic infringement through making a representation.

She will also highlight the role played by RTIA in South Africa’s undertaking to achieve the UN Decade of action road safety goals and in helping the Department of Transport to reduce road crashes by influencing positive driver behaviour.

The Deputy Minister will be joined by Registrar of RTIA Japh Chuwe and the Board of Directors of the agency.
