Deputy Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga celebrates world International Civil Aviation Day 2014, 7 Dec

Every year, on the 7th of December, the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) celebrates International Civil Aviation Day (ICAD) and, South Africa, as a signatory to ICAO will join the globe in commemorating the day.

Transport Deputy Minister, Honourable Sindisiwe Chikunga, will lead the country in celebrating the ICAD at the Kimberley Airport in the Northern Cape province.

Deputy Minister Chikunga, who will also give a keynote address during the celebrations, will be joined by the MEC for Transport, Safety and Liaison in the Northern Cape, Ms Martha Bartlett, experts and captains from the civil aviation industry, senior national and provincial government officials, learners from surrounding areas in the province and members of the media.

In the Northern Cape, the celebrations will be attended by approximately 2 500 school children from grade nine to grade twelve who are less exposed to the aviation industry.

The celebrations will be over a period of three days starting from Friday 5th to Sunday 7th December 2014. The focus of the other two days will be on the aviation career expo targeted at different careers available in the aviation industry.

During the course of the two days, learners will pass through exhibition stands displayed by aviation industry stakeholders and will be afforded an opportunity to interact with the exhibitors to gain more knowledge about the civil aviation industry.

On Sunday 7th, the province will come alive to the display of a spectacular Airshow which the South African aviation industry has put up in commemoration of this world celebrated day.
