Deputy Minister Rejoice Mabudafhasi to announce winners of the 2013 Women in Water Awards in Limpopo

"A Centenary of Working Together towards Sustainable Women Empowerment and Gender Equality”

Mme Rejoice Mabudafhasi, MP, Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs will announce the winners of the 2013 Women in Water Awards on 23 August 2013, in Mzilela village, Giyani, Limpopo Province.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the annual Women in Water Awards.

The First Lady Mama Sizakele “Makhumalo” Zuma will join the Deputy Minister at the awards ceremony.

The Women in Water Awards programme serves as a vehicle for the Department of Water Affairs to appreciate and recognise the good work done by women and the vital role they play in the water sector, encourages perseverance in difficult conditions without resources and for communities to learn good practices of water management and change their attitudes for the better.

The Deputy Minister will present the awards to women led/initiated/implemented water projects in the following categories:

  • Water Conservation - The project should clearly support the national objectives on water conservation and demand management. It should also demonstrate the best, economic and simple ways of conserving water in the process of doing daily activities that should contribute to poverty eradication;
  • Adopt a River – It should encourage communities not to pollute rivers. The project should also promote innovative and sustainable solutions to water management and demonstrate greater women’s participation and involvement;
  • Education and Awareness – The project Should demonstrate clear water related awareness and education campaigns in communities;
  • Community Development – The project should provide evidence of greater community involvement and development.
