The Deputy Minister in the Presidency responsible for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME), Ms. Pinky Kekana will on 28 July 2023, conduct a follow-up frontline service delivery visit to the Nkowankowa Industrial Park, Limpopo Province.
Deputy Minister Kekana conducted the initial monitoring visits to 10 industrial parks across the country that are part of the Industrial Park Revitalisation Programme (IPRP) implemented by the Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition, from September to October 2021. These visits were intended to ascertain whether or not the IPRP contributed to economic growth and job creation as envisaged in local communities.
On 6 October 2022, the DPME team conducted a follow-up monitoring visit to the Nkowankowa Industrial Park. Several challenges such as the employment of illegal immigrants; high electricity bills & water challenges; the lack of support for SMMEs within the Park and as well as the abuse of the local road infrastructure by industrialists within the Park and businesses around the area were identified.
An improvement plan to address these challenges has been developed by the DPME and it is currently being implemented by various stakeholders. The purpose of this monitoring visit will be to assess progress concerning the following: local enterprise development initiatives, local job creation initiatives, community development initiatives, Industrial Park reforms, water supply security within the area, etc.
The Deputy Minister will be accompanied by the Deputy Ministers of Police, Mr. Cassel Mathale; Employment and Labour, Ms. Boitumelo Moloi; Trade, Industry and Competition, Ms. Nomalungelo Gina, the Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry, and Competition, Mr. Fikile Majola; MEC of LEDET, Mr R Monama; Mayor of Mopani District Municipality and Mayor of Greater Tzaneen Municipality and representatives from the Premier's office.
