Deputy Minister Bapela to Deliver Keynote Address at the China-Africa Industrialisation Cooperation event

The Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Mr. Obed Bapela, will deliver a key note address at the research seminar on opportunities and challenges of China-Africa Industrialisation Cooperation on 08 June 2018. The main objective of the seminar will be to examine China – Africa industrialisation into the future. The seminar is jointly hosted by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of South Africa and the Human Science and Research Council (HSRC).

Due to many projects being implemented at the Provincial level, the address by the Deputy Minister is important as it will address Opportunities and Challenges of Driving Economic Growth in Special Economic Zones (SEZ’s) at Local Government Level.

Drawing from the White paper on Local Government, the National Development Plan maintains that for South Africa to meeting its development objectives, Local Government remains at the Centre of economic transformation, therefore it becomes imperative for South Africa’s local government to be globally competitive.

The seminar will address topics that will range from manufacturing, infrastructure, human resource development, to synergies that exist between China and Africa in ensuring implementation at the 7th Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) industrial measures which will be held this year in Beijing-China.

The outcome of the seminar will provide long term industrial solutions for FOCAC 2018 and long term implementation strategies that are sustainable.
