Deputy Minister Mduduzi Manana visits construction site of Sol Plaatjie University in Kimberley, 24 Mar

The Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mr Mduduzi Manana MP, will visit the Sol Plaatjie University in Kimberley on Tuesday, 24 March 2015 to monitor construction progress. This university is one of the three new post-apartheid universities.

The Deputy Minister and his delegation will interact with the University management, project team and contractors on site to have a thorough and concise report on the progress made thus far. This visit forms part of an ongoing monitoring exercise by government to ensure that projects are implemented as planned and challenges are identified and rectified early to allow for speedy intervention and ensure timeous delivery.

The construction of the two new post-apartheid universities (with the exclusion of the Sefako Makgatho Health and Allied Sciences University because it is as a result of the unbundling of Medical University of South Africa (MEDUNSA) from the University of Limpopo) will go a long way to increasing access to Post School Education and Training (PSET) and redressing the legacy of the past, therefore it must be done with due diligence and a high level of professionalism.
