Deputy Minister Maggie Sotyu receives progress report on Operation Stopper, 27 Oct

The Deputy Minister of Police, Ms. Makhotso Maggie Sotyu, will be getting a comprehensive briefing from the South African Police Service of the SAPS Nyanga Cluster on progress made thus far since the Launch of Operation Stopper, which was launched by the SAPS on 8th September 2015. The main objective of the Operation Stopper is to reduce crime in the Nyanga Cluster, an area that is notorious for being "the murder capital of South Africa".

The Deputy Minister of Police has said: "It is the goal of the Ministry of Police to ensure that, constraints that are faced by the Police in the Nyanga Cluster to effectively implement this Operation Stopper, must immediately be brought to the attention of the SAPS Executive (Ministry of Police) for immediate attention and intervention. Therefore, matters of resources, personnel capacity, and limited adequate infrastructure to respond to crime complaints, must be comprehensively attended to".

The Deputy Minister of Police will also take time to visit the murder scene and families of the three men who were shot and killed in Cubungu Street, KTC, whilst watching the Springboks match.

The Deputy Minister of Police will be accompanied by the Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police, some Members of Parliament, and community leaders.
