Deputy Minister John Jeffery leads a Walk for Freedom against Human Trafficking in Durban, 15 Oct

Deputy Minister Jeffery to lead a Walk for Freedom against Human Trafficking in Durban on 15 Oct 2022

The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mr John Jeffery, will lead a walk to raise awareness of human trafficking as a form of modern-day slavery on 15 October 2022 in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

The walk is organised by Abolishing All Injustices in the 21st Century (A21) in partnership with the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development and other stakeholders.  A21 is a non-profit organisation which aims to end slavery by reducing vulnerability, identifying victims and empowering survivors.

On 15 October 2022 abolitionists all over the world will come together to shine a spotlight on human trafficking for A21’s 8th annual Walk for Freedom.  The Walk for Freedom is an integral part of joint efforts to prevent human trafficking as well as raising awareness and providing information to recognise and report human trafficking. The event is not a protest, but a silent, single-file walk on behalf of the millions of people who are trapped in slavery today.

Three walks have been planned for KwaZulu-Natal, namely in Ballito, Durban and Amanzimtoti. The Walk in Durban will be led by the Deputy Minister.  Other Government departments that will participate in the march include the Department of Health, the National Prosecuting Authority, the Department of Social Development, the South African Police Services, the Department of Basic Education and the Department of Home Affairs.
