Background information on the IDT-Vodacom ICT Youth Training Programme

The IDT-Vodacom ICT Youth Training Programme is a three year public private partnership programme between IDT and Vodacom, which is aimed at providing the unemployed youths with ICT and entrepreneur skills to enter the mainstream economy. The programme started in 2013 when IDT and Vodacom partnered through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly implement the Youth Skills Development Programme.

The other part of the programme involves providing vulnerable rural schools with the necessary basic communication equipment such as telephone lines, internet connection, fax machine and printers.

In terms of the MOU, IDT is among other things responsible for the identification and recruitment of the participants into the programme while Vodacom facilitates the training of the participants. IDT also ensures the payment of the stipend to the participants as per EPWP Non-State Sector requirement.
