The Deputy Minister of the Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services Prof Hlengiwe Mkhize will host an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) career exhibition in the Govan Mbeki Local Municipality Hall.

The Govan Mbeki Local Municipality is one of those municipalities that is still plagued by poverty, inequality and unemployment.

The programme is divided into three parts. The first part entails exposing young people to available opportunities in the ICT sector including Internet connectivity, through an interactive career exhibition. The second part will be interactive allowing young people to share their experiences in the use of ICT gadgets and their aspirations to be included in the ICT sector and the third part will be exploration of commitments from stakeholders on possible jobs, internships and mentoring.

Some of the companies that have already committed to come are MICT Seta, Telkom, MTN, Broadband Infraco and USAASA.

Mkhize, aims, among many other issues to promote ICT skills development for the youth in and out of school as well as ethics and values that should guide our youth online.

At least 62.3% of the population in this area has no access to the internet which is another challenge that Mkhize wants to deal with effectively to ensure that every South African is connected.
