Home Affairs Deputy Minister to meet residents of Wuppertal who lost documents in devastating fire

The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Ms Fatima Chohan, will travel to Vredendal on the West Coast on Monday 21 January 2019 where more than 50 Wupperthal residents will be applying for various documents following the devastating fire in the Town at the end of 2018.

The residents are being transported from Wupperthal to Vredendal by the Department of Local Government.

The Deputy Minister will meet the residents at the Thusong Service Centre at 10h30am before visiting the local Department of Home Affairs offices to interact with staff and clients.

The department has deployed extra staff for the day to deal with the increased number of applications.

This will be followed by programmes at Vredendal High School at 12 and Vredendal Hospital at 1pm where she will respectively hand out Smart IDs and birth certificates. Ms Chohan will also address learners at the school and staff at the Hospital. These visits are part of the Deputy Ministry’s Good Citizenship programme.

The Good Citizenship programme is conducted nationwide and aimed at promoting citizenship, identity and human rights, especially among vulnerable sectors.
