Deputy Minister Enver Surty launches Life Science and Physical Science laboratories at Boithaopo Secondary in Kraaipan, 30 Mar

The Deputy Minister of Basic Education Mr Enver Surty will on Monday, 30 March 2015 launch a Life Science and Physical Science laboratories at Boithaopo Secondary School in Kraaipan, North West. The Deputy Minister will be accompanied by the MEC of Education in North West Ms Wendy Matsemela, Dr James Motlatsi of Adopt-a-School Foundation and David McGluwa of IDC North West.

Boithaopo Secondary School was formally adopted by the IDC through Adopt-a-School Foundation in 2012 and has since seen the construction of life science and physical science laboratories, provision of science equipment, educator development and learner supplementary programmes for Grade 10 and 11 learners. The pressure in the school’s water reticulation system has also been upgraded and to date a total of R4.5 million has been invested in the School.

The intervention by the DBE and other partners is aimed at improving quality of teaching and ultimately improve number of learners taking science and pure maths and improve the quality of matric results.  All educators were trained on how to manage the science laboratories and how to use the equipment in order to teach experiments. Educator development programmes (in mathematics and science) are ongoing at the school.
