Basic Education Deputy Minister and EC MEC marks World AIDS Day at Nzululwazi Secondary School in Mt Frere

The Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Mr Enver Surty, accompanied by Eastern Cape MEC Mandla Makuphula will on Tuesday 2 December 2014 mark world AIDS day in Mt Frere, Eastern Cape.

The Department of Basic Education partakes in commemorative events annually at a national and sector level, embracing the national theme as set out by SANAC (South African National AIDS Council) adapting it to the context of the education sector.

In 2014, the education sector theme is “Zero HIV, TB, teenage pregnancy, stigma and discrimination: Be part of the schooling system that creates tomorrow's heroes today”. In commemorating World AIDS Day the education sector recognises the detrimental impact of HIV and TB on the education and achievement of educational outcomes.
