Deputy Minister Pilane-Majake leads a Women’s Month Citizens Engagement programme in the City of Tshwane

The Deputy Minister for the Public Service and Administration, Chana Pilane-Majake will lead the Department in convening a Women’s Month Citizens Engagement which will take in the form of a public lecture to celebrate Women’s Month in the City of Tshwane.

The lecture forms part of the centenary celebration of Mama Albertina Sisulu’s life-long commitment to the struggle for protection, development and advancement of the status of women in South Africa. It will focus on protection noting the current level of emotional, economic and physical abuse of women, taking into consideration the high number of young women who are killed in the Gauteng Province.

The lecture is about sustaining the momentum created by various initiatives such as marches by political parties, the Not in My Name march by men and the Total Shutdown march by women held on the 1 August to send a message that women have had enough with femicide and gender based violence.
