Deputy Minister Buti Manamela addresses Social Development Youth Camp, 4 Dec

Deputy Minister in the Presidency, Buti Manamela will tomorrow, 4 December 2014 give a message of support to the young people who will be part of the 2014 social development youth camp.

Deputy Minister Manamela is responsible for youth development and it is in this context that he will address the 200 plus young people who will form part of the week long youth camp.

Deputy Minister Manamela will also take the opportunity to encourage the young people to participate in the formulation of the National Youth Policy 2014-2019 in order to ensure that it addresses the challenges they face. Young people will be consulted extensively during the policy formulation process to ensure that it speaks to their needs, interests and aspirations.

The Youth Camp is an initiative of the Department of Social development in partnership with the Department of Defence and Military Veterans. It aims to promote national identity, nation building, social cohesion, patriotism and active citizenry among the youth people of South Africa.

Some of the discussions that young people will hold are centered on youth and child-headed households, access to education and skills training, youth unemployment, alcohol and substance abuse, sexual abuse, teenage pregnancy, social and cultural integration.
