Deputy Minister Makhotso Sotyu addresses inaugural general meeting of Environmental Assessment Practitioners Association of South Africa, 17 Nov

The Deputy Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms. Makhotso Sotyu will address the inaugural general meeting of the Environmental Assessment Practitioners Association of South Africa (EAPASA) set to take place in Midrand on Tuesday, 17 November 2020.

This year marks three years since the Department of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries appointed EAPASA as the sole registration authority in terms of Section 24H of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA).

This appointment was aimed at advancing the practice and quality of environmental assessment in South Africa by the professionalisation and transformation of the environmental sector. The professional registration of Environmental Assessment Practitioners – or EAPs - ensures that environmental assessment processes are administered and managed by suitably experienced, qualified and credible individuals.

The inaugural general meeting will be convened in accordance with the legal framework governing EAPASA’s activities. The main objectives of the general meeting include the election of board members, the presentation of the chairperson’s report and the Audited Annual Financial Statements for the previous financial year.

The organisation was recognised by the Executive Committee of South African Qualification Authority (SAQA) as a statutory Professional Body and registered the professional designation Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) on the National Qualifications Framework Act, 2008 (Act No.67 of 2008).

Guests in the environmental sector and registered Environmental Assessment Practitioners will also attend the general meeting. A limited number of guests are required to attend physically, while others can participate virtually in observance of the COVID-19 regulations.
