Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities hosts roundtable discussion on process, currently underway, to form the Board of Trustees, 14 Oct

Roundtable discussion on realising the National Strategic Plan on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide

The Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities will host a roundtable discussion to discuss the process, currently underway, to form the Board of Trustees that will establish the National Council on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (NCGBVF). The roundtable discussion will bring together voices from government and civil society organisations who differ on the processes being followed to establish the temporary board which will establish the NCGBVF.

The department recently called for nominations from civil society organisations to form part of the Board of Trustees. “While the department continues to receive nominations, there are some voices that disagree on the process. We want to use this platform to hear varying opinions and come to a common understanding,” said Director-General of The Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Advocate Mikateko Joyce Maluleke.

The department has invited representatives from all 9 provinces to form part of this roundtable discussion. Civil Society and Media play an important role in understanding this process as it directly impacts on the country’s efforts to end gender-based violence and femicide.

Members of media are invited to the consultation as follows:
Date: 14 October 2020
Time: 09:00-11:00
Platform:  Zoom: https://gcis.zoom.us/j/91094514157

The discussion will also be streamed via the department’s Facebook (@dwypdza) and Twitter (@DWYPD_ZA) accounts.
