Department of Women remembers victims of gender based violence, 12 Nov

The Department of Women in partnership with women from the Inter-Denominational Groups will hold a prayer session in the morning of the 12 November 2015 remembering victims of gender based violence and also praying for the total eradication of this scourge.

The day will start at 9h00 at the Miracle Centre Ministries at New Crossroads in Gugulethu Cape Town. The programme will begin with scripture reading by Reverend Faleni then women survivors and inmates will share their testimonies. This will be followed by the chain of prayer before proceeding to parliament for the joint sitting debate.

The joint sitting debate on 16 Days of Activism will start at 12h30 at the National Assembly in Parliament Cape Town.

The 25 November is the International Day on no Violence against Women and children and signifies the beginning of the 16 Days of activism.

The department will continue with the theme adopted in 2014 “Count Me In: Together Moving a Non-Violent South Africa Forward”. This will ensure that the existing campaigns are heightened in the 16 days but also to assess the impact of the 365 days of activism that was anchored around mass participation and individuals taking responsibility for their role in exacerbating and or eradicating violence against women.
