Launch of sanitary dignity programme hailed as victory for women’s rights
In what can only be hailed as a long fought victory for women’s rights, the launch of the Sanitary Dignity Programme will take place in Piet Retief, Mpumalanga on 28 February 2019.
The launch is a culmination of government’s efforts to ensure that all young women have access to sanitary products. The Sanitary Dignity Programme encompasses the entire value chain from procurement and production, to storage, distribution, and disposal of sanitary products.
The Department of Women (DoW) is mandated with the responsibility to coordinate the development of an implementation framework on the distribution of sanitary products to indigent girls and women.
The National launch of the Sanitary Dignity Programme will be held under the theme “Restoring the dignity of young women” on 28 February 2019. Minister in the Presidency Responsible for Women, Ms Bathabile Dlamini, and Premier of Mpumalanga, Ms Refilwe Mtshweni will lead the launch.
