On Saturday, 1 December 2012, the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, will be sending of three choirs to the national finals in Durban. The Choirs are:
- Belcanto Voices (Bloemfontein)
- Free State Choristers (Bloemfontein)
- Ben Marcato (Welkom)
These choirs will represent the province at the annual Old Mutual National Choir Competition, to be hosted at the Durban International Convention Centre.
The choirs won their respective categories at the Old Mutual Provincial Choral Competition, held on 7 October 2012 at the City Hall in Bloemfontein. Belcanto Voices is taking part in a new category named the “Champ of champs” as the defending champions.
After a much anticipated and successful choral festival on 18 November 2012, the department is both proud and confident on the participating choirs, and is looking forward to announcing these choirs as some of the top rated choirs in South Africa.
The department will be sending of these choirs as follows:

12h30 - Free State Choristers
13h30 - Belcanto Voices
Each choir will receive the following:
- Travelling attire for all three Choirs. (Golf Shirt, Shorts and Travel Bags)
- Orchestra Rehearsal for all choirs on 1 December 2012
- Each Choir will receive R30 000 as part of support from the department.
