The Golden Games is a multi-coded sport tournament dedicated to senior citizens in our communities. The games were initiated at national level. The Free State held its first Provincial Elderly Games, as they were then called, from 2 to 4 November 2006, under the theme “Active Senior Citizens Who Make a Difference.”
The codes involved in the tournament are: Football (Males and Females); Duck walk; Dress-up; Passing the ball; Athletics; Rugby ball Throw; Jukskei; Ring the stick; Ball Pass and Kick; Ball Relay; Goal Shooting; Pegging and Washing Pegs.
Fun, laughter, singing, dancing, and a wide range of sport activities are the order of the day at the games. Teams are made up of men and women older than 60 years, with many participants being older than 70 years, and even reaching the ripe old age of 90 years.
Older persons from across the spectrum of society are expected to attend the games. These include older persons from rural areas, informal settlements, urban centres and so on.
The 2013 Golden Games districts selections have taken place with the Provincial
selection for Football (Males and Females) also having taken place in Welkom on 4 September 2013.
Other Provincial selections for the remaining codes will take place as follows:

Team Free State that will represent the province at the national games will be announced after the provincial selections selection.

Recreation in partnership with the Free State Departments of Health and Social
Development.
