Department of Defence: Environment Award programme

The Department of Defence (DOD) will be hosting an Annual DOD Environmental Award Ceremony on Wednesday, 4 September 2013. The function will take place at Pienaars River Training Area and the event will commence at 11h00. The Secretary for Defence, Mr SM Gulube accompanied by senior military leadership will be the main functionary at the event.

The Officers Commanding and Environmental Personnel of Military bases and units throughout the country will be acknowledged for their specific environmental projects and achievements in respect of Water Efficiency, Integrated Waste Management, Base Environmental Management, Ecological Management, Environmental Education Awareness, Training as well as Military Integrated Environmental Management System.

Floating trophies and awards will be presented in various categories to the national finalist bases, units and environmental personnel during the ceremony.

The DOD commits itself and supports the prevention of pollution, protects environment and ecological degradation as well as promoting conservation. In terms of section 15 (1) and schedule 2 of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998)
