Department to campaign against human trafficking

The Department of Police, Roads and Transport in the Free State province will embark on a campaign to raise awareness on drugs and human trafficking in communities around the Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality and Lesotho border.

The campaign will be held in Qwaqwa on Friday, 30th August 2013 as part of Women’s Month celebrations. The campaign will start at 10h00 at Charles Mopedi Stadium.

The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness around issues of human trafficking and drug abuse in the province especially around the Maluti-a-Phofung area, to remind Free State citizens that human trafficking is a serious problem that warrants urgent intervention on all fronts. The campaign will also remind citizens about ill effects of drugs on human being. The Youth of this area particularly women are vulnerable and get easily exposed to the monster called “Drug Abuse and prostitution, due to high rate of unemployment and high volume of traffic that passes the local municipality from/to neighbouring provinces such as KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Gauteng.

The campaign will be attended by Senior officers from the South African Police Services (SAPS), Officials from Lesotho government and departments such as Home Affairs, Health etc.

The Department of Police, Roads and Transport would like to invite all media representatives to the event to contribute in the fight against drugs and human trafficking by informing the general public about the ill effects of them on human beings.
