Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in partnership with the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform to harvest in Limpopo

On Saturday, 27 July 2013, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Tina Joemat-Pettersson, in partnership with the Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Mr Gugile Nkwinti, will join the President of the Republic of South Africa, Mr Jacob Zuma, alongside members of the Cabinet and the provincial leadership for harvesting in Phethwane Village, Limpopo.

During the 2012/13 production season, the Integrated Food and Nutrition Security (IFNS) planted maize, beans and sunflower on more than 100 ha of land in the Eastern Cape, North West, Mpumalanga, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo provinces.

Of the hectares planted, more than 5 000 were planted in three local municipalities of the  Greater Sekhukhune District, namely Makhudutamaga, Elias Motsoaledi and Ephraim Mogale local municipalities. Harvesting has already been completed in two municipalities and the Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality will be the last to harvest.
