DEA celebrates 18 Years of Working for Water Programme

The Department of Environmental Affairs will be celebrating 18 years of successful and efficient implementation of the Working for Water Programme in QwaQwa, Free State on Saturday, 30 November 2013.

As part of the celebration, the department, in synergy with Working for Water implementing agencies has organised a marathon, which will start from the Basotho Cultural Village (Golden Gate Nature Reserve) to Quick Spar, QwaQwa.

Participants in the marathon will include beneficiaries of the Working for Water Programme, community members, and other athletes.

This year’s celebration recognises the significance of 18 years of work done by the Working for Water in the management of natural resources, alleviation of poverty, job creation and social development.

The Working for Water programme has had a long association with the Clarens marathon.

The involvement dates back to 2008 when the programme cleared alien plants around the Clarens area.
