Correctional Services hosts Youth Engagement Session at Steenbok Village, 23 Feb

DCS to engage with the Community of Nkomazi

The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) will host a Youth Engagement Session at Steenbok Village on Friday, 23 February 2024. The session is to engage the youth with an aim to curb crime and unearthing economic opportunities.

The Department heeded the call by Inkosi Lungedlane II who called upon DCS to assist in reducing crime levels and providing guidance to the youth, following a visit in the area in January 2024. In realizing the dire need for interventions, the National Commissioner Mr Makgothi Thobakgale pledged to support initiatives which will develop the community through DCS resources to advance young people’s development and education in the area.

As the hope of tomorrow, youth in South Africa do face various challenges such as unemployment, economic inequalities, social issues and many others, which result in criminal activities, depression, substance abuse, and violence. The engagement will break into different commissions where young people will form part of
the solution seeking mechanism.

The session will mainly target the youth from Steenbok, Mjejane and Mangweni villages.

Various stakeholders such as the National House of Traditional and Khoi San Leaders, National Youth Development Agency, NEMISA, the National Prosecuting Authority, South African Police Service, Department of Social Development, Department of Home Affairs, Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety and many others, are expected to join in the conversation and also showcase their services to the community.
