Correctional Services Committee to receive update on consultants

The Portfolio Committee on Correctional Services will tomorrow (21 August 2013) receive an update on the department’s measures put in place to reduce its reliance on consultants.

The Committee will also interact with the department and the Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services on ways in which their working relationship may be improved. Furthermore, the Committee will receive a briefing by the department on its 1 April to 30 June 2013 financial and administrative performance and also receive a briefing by the Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services on its 1 April to 30 June 2013 performance.

Meanwhile, the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development will start deliberations on the South African Human Rights Commission Bill. The Bill seeks to repeal the Act and replace it with a new South African Human Rights Commission Act. Furthermore, it is intended largely to streamline the application of the existing legislation and, in turn, to enhance the functioning of the Commission.
