Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Deputy Minister Andries Nel to give keynote address at commemoration of Ethiopian Movement

The Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Andries Nel will give a keynote address at the National Summit on the Commemoration of the Ethiopian Movement.

The National Interfaith Council of South Africa (NICSA), in partnership with the Department of Traditional Affairs (DTA), will host a national summit to commemorate the birth of the Ethiopian Movement.

The national summit is a response to the declaration by the African Union (AU) of 2013 as the year of Pan Africanism and the African Renaissance. The African Union (AU) Commission proposed a boutique of events to celebrate the year.

Member states and civil society organisations have been called upon to participate in these celebrations. To this end the Ethiopian family of churches within the National Interfaith Council of South Africa (NICSA) proposed the Commemoration of the Ethiopian Movement to mark the founding of the Ethiopian Church of South Africa on 20 November 1892 in Marabastad, Pretoria.

The event will take place as follows:

Date: Friday, 29 November 2013
Time: 08h30 - 16h30
Venue: Pretoria

It is for this reason that NICSA and DTA saw it fit to commemorate the Ethiopian movement as part of celebrations of 2013 as the year of Pan Africanism and the African Renaissance.
