The Portfolio Committee on Sports and Recreation will this week (22 - 23 July 2013) conduct an oversight visit to the Free State Province to assess the state of sports facilities.
FIFA, in conjunction with municipalities, established a Soccer World Cup Legacy Programme in 2010 yet sport development has not seen any impressive progress in many municipalities. The visit will focus on access, maintenance, security and mass participation of communities in sports activities using these facilities.
The Committee will also assess how municipalities have spent the 15% of the Municipal Infrastructure Grant that has been ring-fenced to allow for the building of sport and recreational facilities.
