COGTA Minister launches second BRICS urbanisation forum and the third Friendship Cities and Local Government Cooperation Forum whilst he takes Government to the people of Middleburg through MinMec

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Lechesa Tsenoli, his Deputy Andries Nel and the nine MECs responsible for local government will hold the MinMec and launch the second BRICS Forum and the third Friendship Cities and Local Government as follows:

The town of Middelburg has a population of just over 87,000 and is an industrial zone. It is the stainless steel capital of the Southern Hemisphere. Other activities in the local municipality include three crucial Eskom Power Stations, coal and platinum mining activities, productive agriculture areas, a thriving commercial community and multiple tourist attractions. The municipality has satisfactory and well-maintained infrastructure, providing adequate electricity, water, access roads and sanitation, and the authorities report 100% revenue collections.

High amongst many accomplishments are: successive Clean Audit reports; Blue Drop and Green Drop Status for six Water Systems and one Sewerage Treatment Works; Greenest Town Status Provincial champions, and second runner-up nationally in 2011; Provincial Library of the year; Top level second Human Settlement accreditation; and No.1 in Provincial records management.
